At Koudijs, we have developed OxiGuard, which contains a mixture of polyphenols, selected for their strong antioxidative properties and efficacy in animal feeds. It can be applied to replace part of vitamin E or additionally, in situations where animals experience oxidative stress.
We compared the antioxidant capacity through an ex-vivo test, comparing Vitamin E50, OxiGuard and a benchmark polyphenols mixture. OxiGuard has strong antioxidative properties, which results in the highest safety margins for its antioxidative capacity.
OxiGuard comes from plant based sources
Many polyphenol containing sources were tested for their antioxidant properties, resulting in a carefully selected mixture of polyphenols based on antioxidative strength, availability and costs. It contains the best selected ingredients in terms of efficacy and price.

OxiGuard is optimized and validated ex-vivo and in-vivo for poultry and swine.
When animals are highly productive or suffer from stress, they increase their metabolic response leading to oxidative stress. OxiGuard helps to minimize these effects and supports their performance and health. The effect of replacement of vitamin E with OxiGuard and a comparison with other antioxidant sources was tested in broiler and sows diets.

What is oxidative stress?
- During metabolism, free radicals are produced. These are neutralized by antioxidants present in the body (body enzymes and ingested via feed).
- When the number of free radicals is not in balance with the number of antioxidants in the body, the free radicals start damaging the cells. Oxidative stress is the result.
- Oxidative stress affects the performance and health of the animal, leading to production losses and even mortality in severe situations.
- Problems like inflammation, weakened immune function, and chronic diseases are well-known negative effects of oxidative stress.
